The man who built a time machine and went back to kill a ruthless tyrant who had been responsible for millions of deaths, returned to a world where no one had ever heard about this tyrant.

Initially, the man was proud of his action, having saved millions of lives. But all who heard his story gave him a funny look. They asked him what he meant and pointed out the millions who had been killed in the tyrants place in time by the rulers of the day. The genocide he thought he had thwarted had happened after all.

Had killing the tyrant only made place for another at the head of the killing machine?
That seemed to be the only right conclusion.
